Temporary foreign workers in
Canada can now dream of settling in the country permanently. Indications are
being provided from the latest actions that are taken by United Food and Commercial
Workers (UFCW) union. UFCW Canada has called for Temporary Foreign Workers
Program (TFWP) to be taken away and an immigration system should be put in
place.
This is one of the
recommendations that are made to the parliamentary committee by UFCW Canada.
The temporary foreign workers program will be reviewed by parliamentary
committee very soon at a hearing in Ottawa. This will make a big difference in
the status of temporary workers and they will be able to enjoy more privileges
with permanent residency of Canada.
The submission, which is made
under the name “A New Vision for a Sustainable Immigration System” has asked
the federal government to give permission to foreign worker to apply for permanent residency of Canada. This
permission should at least be given to those people who are already living and
working in the country.
The reason given to grant permanent residency to Canada for
workers is that it will equal rights will be given to them. These people will
have access to Employment insurance benefits and the pension plan of Canada.
When a foreign worker comes with employer specific work permit than he or she
has to work with that person and in some cases they become victim of abuse.
This will allow them to work in
Canada without any fear and they will have meaningful legal access. Thousands
of workers are being represented by UFCW Canada, who has come to the country as
temporary foreign workers. There are many people who have been granted permanent residence of Canada through
the provincial nominee program.
This has become possible as there
is an agreement between the big employers and UFCW Canada. The provincial nominee program is
proactively supported by the members of UFCW Canada and they have extended
their support to foreign workers.
These workers have made a big
positive difference in the economy of the country and it time now that they are
given equal rights.
