Canada promised to bring 300,000
new faces to the country and now the government of Canada is working towards
realizing as to what it aimed for. In recent announcement made by John
McCallum, minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship, the government of
Canada is planning to revamp the process of immigration and make it more
streamlined.
McCallum had visited the Peel region
when he made the big announcement. Earlier, the government of Canada had asked
for the views from the general public as to what sort of changes they would
like to see in the immigration policies.
At the time of the election
campaign of 2015, the Liberal Party had proposed that, if brought to power,
they will make fresh changes to the immigration process. The consultation
process has now been started by the government to bring these changes into
effect.
Discussions are going on between
stakeholders and members of the local parliament in Mississauga and Brampton on
the final outlook of the immigration policies. The top priority in the changes
that are being proposed is to speed up the process of family class immigration to Canada.
As per the present rules, it
takes nearly 2 years before a family visa is granted, which is way too long for
families to stay away from each other. By reducing this gap, the government
will make it easy for families to reunite with their family members.
The present immigration system
faced by the government has many concerns at present and efforts are being made
to fine tune it and efficient. Changes are also expected to come in skilled and
family class Canada visa, along with visitor visa and economic visa category,
during the coming fall season.
There is good news for students
who wish to study and finally settle in Canada, as the government of Canada is
proposing to make it easier for international students to become a permanent
resident of Canada.
