The government of Canada
is plugging in loopholes in immigration to expedite the process and
for faster integration of people in the country. One of the many
changes proposed recently by the government is to remove the
conditional permanent residency of Canada that is given to sponsored
spouse.
As per the current
regulations, conditional permanent residency status is being granted
to the spouse who has been in marriage for two or less years and
without children. After this status is obtained, the spouse has to
stay together for another two years; else there is a chance of losing
the status.
It has been quite some
time since these changes are being planned. The governments of all
the provinces were informed in May 2016 by the Immigration, Refugees
and Citizenship Canada of the changes that may take into effect.
The Forward Regulatory
authority has put out some reasons as to why these changes are being
asked to made. The main among these reasons is the vulnerability of
the sponsored spouse and the problems that are associated with it.
When the proposed change
in brought into force, it will be applicable on spouses who are
living in Canada on conditional permanent resident status, along with
on those applications that are being processed at present and
applications that will be presented in future.
Protection for
Vulnerable Newcomers
It has been noted by the
government of Canada that spouses who are living in the country on
conditional permanent residence have faced domestic abuse at the
hands of the sponsor. The regulation for conditional permanent
residence was brought into force on October 25, 2012.
More than 58,000 people
have been granted conditional permanent residence of Canada since
then.
This news comes as a
breath of fresh air for thousands of immigrants who are living in
Canada on conditional PR. They will now be able to live a better life
and enjoy equal rights in the country.
